Other Treatment Modalities
Cryotherapy
The application of ice packs or cold water for short time to treat musculoskeletal and soft tissue injuries during the acute phase of an injury. It helps reduce swelling and inflammation by constricting blood vessels and blood flow and provides a natural analgesic effect.
Hydrotherapy
Involves the use of a pool or underwater treadmill with a water temperature of 29 – 32 degrees C. The water provides support to the body that would not be experienced on land allowing therapeutic exercise that would be difficult on land to be carried out. The warm water increases blood supply to submerged tissues, can aid relaxation and produces sensory stimulation.
other therapy treatment can be delivered alongside manual therapy and electrotherapy programme of treatment.
Thermotherapy
The application of heat in the form of heat pads or mats, gel packs and hot towels to treat musculoskeletal and soft tissue injuries. It promotes blood flow and circulation reducing pain, relieving muscle tension and increasing the flexibility of joints and soft tissue.
Land Treadmill
Can be used for strengthening, endurance and cardiovascular fitness.
Kinesiology
The use of Kinesiology tape can help improve blood flow and support muscle regeneration after strain. It can also support body awareness and balance.
